CAREER EXPERIENCE
I’ve been working as a licensed therapist since 2011.
I worked as therapist and program manager at a substance abuse clinic from 2011-2015. Volunteers of America - Cornerstone Counseling. Salt Lake City, UT
I conducted individual and group therapy sessions to court-mandated patients. I learned to confront both the substance issues as well as the deeper issues underneath. I also learned the difference between what it looks like when someone wants to be in therapy versus feeling forced to attend.
I collaborated with a treatment team and eventually ran the team as the program manager. I became skilled at understanding very quickly the level and type of help someone needed when they began coming to the clinic.
I learned I was naturally very good at seeing through the exterior of someone into the real stuff underneath.
I moved to India in 2015 to live for a year. While there I treated expats who were also from the United States. Private Office.
I learned about what draws someone to live abroad in a completely different world.
My patients helped me understand the unique loneliness of being around so many people yet feeling very alone and isolated.
When I returned I worked as a supervisor for new clinicians, and I began my private practice in Salt Lake City, UT in 2016. It has successfully been in operation sever since.
My patients have taught me so much about the world, how the mind works, and about myself. Each individual patient has taught me a different way to listen to the unconscious mind. Each patient has taught me how to stretch myself to make space for their unique experience in the world. I’ve learned about how certain people affect me and I affect them. I’ve learned about how my patients and I change each other.
Being a supervisor has taught me how to listen to their listening of their patients, how to think about what the supervisee and patient needs for their growth and development simultaneously.
